Over the last twenty years, Dr. Planer has developed and is using his program of Myopia Control, especially developed for Asian children, which has proven both effective and fun for them to do.

This program is called the EXCEL Myopia Control Program.

During the Excel Program, your child will wear extremely small and comfortable (we call the mild awareness-sensation "whisper touch") Program contact lenses for over-night wear. These lenses are individually designed using highly sophisticated computer measurements of each of your child's corneas (front covering of the eye). These lenses are precisely created to match the exact shape of each of your child's corneas. These lenses are made with extremely hyper-highly oxygen permeable material (F.D.A. approved, of course, as is the procedure) that allows the needed oxygen to go through the lens material itself, helping to ensure a safe environment for the eye while being worn over-night.  Each lens is completely different for each eye and for each patient...they are completely individually determined and manufactured, again, for each eye and for each person. They are not from any so-called "fitting set" that forces the eyes to adapt to their limited lens parameters and changes. This assures that the Excel Program is the most effective and safe for your child to experience! When these lenses are removed upon awakening, your child will see much clearer than before. In fact, the over-whelming majority of the patients in our Program see clear enough to need no prescription glasses/contact lenses during the day....THAT is the FUN part of the EXCEL Program for your child....and, in our office, your child will have fun!!!  Just ask any of the many children who participate in the Program here!!!  The GREAT part of the EXCEL Program for your child is that it eliminates the dangerous rapid ever-increasing myopic future changes that your child normally would have to experience, if not for Excel.
